What is a Socket Set Screw?

A socket set screw is a highly specialized, headless fastener engineered with an internal hexagonal drive and a fully threaded body. • Knurled Cup Point: Similar to a standard cup point, but engineered with specialized knurls on the cutting edge. These knurls drastically improve grip, helping the fastener stay securely in place by preventing backing out or loosening due to heavy vibration.
• Cone Point: Features a sharp, pointed tip for the permanent setting of parts. They offer the absolute highest holding capability due to the deep penetration of the cone point directly into the mating surface.
• Oval Point: Engineered with a smooth, oval-shaped point. These are typically utilized in environments where frequent structural adjustments are necessary and minimal deformation of the mating part is required.
• Flat Point: The simplest and most cost-effective type of set screw, featuring a completely flat surface on the driving end. They are frequently used for applications requiring frequent part relocation with minimal shaft deformation.
• Full Dog & Half Dog Point: Both feature a flat, unthreaded tip protruding from one end, which is normally located into a machined groove in a shaft. This allows the shaft to rotate smoothly while firmly retaining the part in place, often replacing the use of a traditional dowel pin.
• Nylon & Brass Tip: Specialty set screws engineered to protect delicate mating surfaces. Nylon tips are non-conductive, highly chemical resistant, and prevent marring. Brass tips are utilized for specialty services where a softer contact point is required to prevent shaft damage.
